The American Planning Association (APA) recognized WRT’s Washington Avenue Loft District as one of Ten Great Places in America. Washington Avenue thrives as one of St. Louis’s most popular districts after a series of public improvements implemented by WRT. The district underwent a transformation from a vacant, industrial area to a lively corridor – residential and office lofts, boutiques, restaurants and nightclubs – now populate the arts-oriented district. A focus on public space laid the groundwork for displays of public art, street performers and outdoor café seating, adding to the pulse of activity in the district. WRT’s particular attention to detail on every component level – landscape, furnishings, paving, and lighting – aid in creating a buzzing atmosphere inspired by its historic surroundings.
