David Rouse to Help Foster Urban Forest Planning

May 25, 2010

WRT principal David Rouse is assisting the American Planning Association (APA) in the development of a training workshop that will instruct planners nationwide on the integration of urban forestry into current and long-range planning activities. The APA, with the support of the US Forest Service, worked with the International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) and American Forests (AF) to develop Planning the Urban Forest: Ecology, Economy, and Community Development (PAS Report 555), the best practices manual on which the workshop will be based.

David has an exemplary track record of incorporating urban forestry into community planning projects such as the Lancaster County Green Infrastructure Plan and Atlanta's Project Greenspace. Once the workshop is finalized, he will be one of two professionals (along with Davey Institute of Tree Sciences Director Robert J. Laverne) who will conduct the training for interested organizations. The pilot workshop will take place in Lancaster, PA on October 6 in conjunction with the annual conference of APA's Pennsylvania Chapter.
