The Barbara Place Terrace development in Jersey City, NJ and Garfield Court in Long Branch, NJ were recently awarded Outstanding Achievement Awards by the Middle Atlantic Regional Council of the National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials (MARC NAHRO).
These two awards bring to five the number of WRT housing projects awards received in just the first six months of 2010. Earlier, Overlook Park in Allentown, PA won a 10,000 Friends Commonwealth Award, and the Morris Canal/Lafayette Park Neighborhood in Jersey City was selected for a New Jersey Future Smart Growth Award. In addition, the Jersey City Landmarks Conservancy's Preservation Initiative Award was given to the Jersey City Housing Authority for constructing sensitively-designed public housing, including the Morris Canal/Lafayette Park Neighborhood.
Barbara Place Terrace is the third phase of a five-phase development on the former Lafayette Gardens public housing project site, and consists of 67 mixed-income rental housing units and community spaces such as a fitness center, meeting room, and a computer training lab. WRT provided architectural and master planning services for the project.
Garfield Court is part of a multi-phase HOPE VI project to provide 275 units of new rental housing, a new headquarters office for the Long Branch Housing Authority, and a new recreation and community center. Garfield Court was the first affordable housing project in New Jersey to be registered in the LEED for Homes program.
