In June, the Government Education Committee of the Miami-Dade and the Keys Branch of the South Florida Chapter of the USGBC held a panel entitled "Local Government Implementation of the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grants." The Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant (EECBG) program, funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, provides grants for projects across the country that improve energy efficiency.

WRT Associate Rob Kerns was one of three people invited to make presentations at the panel. His presentation discussed WRT's approach to sustainable comprehensive planning, using the firm's Biloxi Energy Strategy project as an example. Rob leads WRT's Energy Task Force, which is working with staff in all of WRT's offices on energy-related planning and design opportunities.

The other panel presenters were Devesh Nirmul, Sustainability Program Manager with the Miami-Dade County Office of Sustainability, and Hector Samario, Senior Sales Consultant with FPL Energy Services.
