Action Plan to Rebuild New Orleans
WRT prepared the Action Plan to Rebuild New Orleans for the Bring New Orleans Back Commission (BNOBC) over a ten-week period following the devastation of hurricanes Katrina and Rita. The plan established a city-wide framework for safety (storm and flood protection), access and connection (transit and transportation), and nature (parks and open space) to steer recovery. Working closely with the BNOBC's Urban Planning Committee, the firm developed a vision, guidelines, and a neighborhood-based planning process for repopulating and rebuilding the city. This process addresses issues of land use, density, infrastructure, sustainability, historic preservation, housing, and urban design, and identifies priorities for the rebuilding process.
