Beargrass Creek Preserve
Beargrass Creek, a tributary of the Ohio River, was subject to frequent flooding due to increasing stormwater run-off from nearby development. The flooding occasionally extended into adjacent residential areas, and resulted in lowered water quality, creek bank erosion, and loss of habitat. WRT's task was to create a 12-acre park to accommodate heightened stormwater detention demands, repair damage to existing stream banks, create new habitat areas, and provide community access to the creek. Extensive community input helped to shape the character of the park. New wetlands were created by sculpting a series of basins on each side of the creek.
