Des Moines Riverfront Master Plan

WRT's vision for Des Moines' central riverfrontcreated a 1.2-mile “riverwalk," in commemoration of the Principal Financial Group's 125th anniversary as a civic and economic force in the city. The project anchors four downtown attractions,the Botanical Center, Court Avenue District, the new Science Center of Iowa, and a proposed Events Center,and also serves as a hub for the city's numerous bike trails. The riverfront is divided into three development zones,Northern, Historic, and Recreation. Highlights include pedestrian bridges,with two options for a landmark bridge,riverfront parks, a fishing pier, riverfront gardens, a canoe and kayak run, a multi-purpose trail, a fountain and skating plaza, a bladder dam to allow water activities, and an events plaza.
