Donald Bren School of Environmental Science and Management

WRT's landscape architectural services made a substantial contribution to the sustainability of this 67,500-GSF instructional laboratory located on the University of California, Santa Barbara campus. As an applied research project in environmentally-sound planning and design, the Bren School practices what it teaches. This pioneering facility incorporated a sizable allotment of recycled materials, both in the building itself and the surrounding landscape. Green site design components included tree canopies shading western exposures, recycled-content pavement materials and site furnishings, reclaimed water irrigation systems, and the extensive use of native and drought-tolerant vegetation. The project achieved a LEED Platinum rating.
