East Hampton Comprehensive Plan
The Village of East Hampton, on the east end of Long Island, was in danger of losing its small village character due to rapid development. The primary goal of WRT's comprehensive plan is to sustain the village as a community of neighborhoods clustered around a traditional village center, and limiting the size of new and restored commercial buildings and residences. The plan also called for renewed intergovernmental coordination with the Town of East Hampton to explore solutions to traffic congestion, lack of affordable housing, and water quality management. The first major action taken by the village was adoption of a local ordinance limiting new buildings in its six commercial districts to 10,000 SF.
