Ellwood-Devereux Coast Open Space and Habitat Management Plan
WRT was instrumental in creating this plan that resolves land use and environmental conflicts among multiple stakeholders for a 2.25-mile section of Pacific coastline. The plan guides the location and quality of development so as to protect the most sensitive coastal environmental resources, enabling stakeholders to find a meaningful compromise. Outcomes include preservation in perpetuity of 665 acres of open space for habitat, passive recreation, and public access, and proposed accommodation of needed housing at UC Santa Barbara. The plan manages public access and recreation to ensure compatibility with natural resources, and provides an administrative framework and funding strategy to ensure the long-term management of the open space areas.
