Fashion Square Mall Redevelopment
This project demonstrates an innovative strategy to re-energize the revenue generation of a traditional regional mall in the face of increasing competition. Here, the surface lots of Orlando's Fashion Square Mall were envisioned as potential “infill" development parcels. Using an open space framework and stormwater management techniques as place-making devices, WRT proposed an additional 160,000 leasable square feet of retail program in the form of restaurants, cafes, and boutiques as well as over 500 residential units. A phased program was devised to introduce the new development, which will convert all surface parking on the property's east side into structured spaces. The proposed development framework is designed with built-in flexibility to accommodate programmatic requirements shift over time.
