North Canal Extension

This project extended by three blocks WRT's earlier work on the Capital City Landing project, which redeveloped Indianapolis' historic Indiana Central Canal. The design revitalizes and transforms the northern end of the abandoned canal from a grass ditch into a public park, completing the Canal District. Newly designed features include complete reconstruction of the canal, two vehicular bridges that cross the canal, a historic sluice gate, elements that reflect Indiana's limestone industry, a 12-foot waterfall, and provisions for canal touring boats. Design elements and materials echo the historic canal's character, evoking the city's industrial past and the power of water in our heritage.
