Pennsylvania State University Core Campus Improvements

WRT's landscape design has transformed several areas of Penn State's main campus, including Pollock Road, the university's main east-west corridor, and Eastview Terrace, a new 800-bed residential community. A combination of streetscape improvements and traffic controls set the stage for Pollock Road's metamorphosis from a run-down, congested thoroughfare into a lively pedestrian corridor with a variety of student gathering spaces. One of them, HUB Plaza, extends the life of the student union building to the outdoors. Large blocks of locally available stone serve as informal seating, defining the space and allowing student life to flourish. A granite water feature, also from a local quarry, lends visual interest and an audible backdrop to the plaza. The core campus improvements have transformed the university into a more pedestrian-friendly campus.
