Rutgers University College Avenue Campus Design
This competition-winning scheme for Rutgers University's College Avenue envisions how campus growth can coincide with an urbanization strategy. The design calls for the addition of open space as a tempering device for increasing the density of buildings and activity, resulting in a more traditional campus-like environment, albeit quite urban. The closing of College Avenue to vehicular traffic and its transformation to a pedestrian oriented space will help to unite the campus through a new central spine. A new River Lawn park will reconnect Rutgers to the Raritan River, anchored by a new iconic Arts and Sciences Tower that celebrates the spirit of higher education.
