San Jose State University
WRT's planning and landscape design has transformed San Jose State University from a gritty, vehicle-dominated campus into an urban oasis. Three city streets that once divided the campus were redesigned into a series of linked pedestrian malls, each park-like and with a distinct plant palette to reinforce the campus as an arboretum and teaching resource. The project dramatically increased open space and created a coherent sense of character throughout the campus. Another project, the urban design and landscape for a shared City-University library adjacent to campus, extends the campus ambience beyond its traditional bounds.
