Schuylkill River Park
The design for Schuylkill River Park uses a minimal palette and a sustainable approach to improve nearly two miles of urban waterfront. The project is intended to draw people from lively Center City Philadelphia to the Schuylkill River's edge and to provide a connection to Fairmount Park, the nation's largest urban park system. The newly designed park acts as an urban terrace, an overlook along the river. New lighting, paving, and native plantings with ornamental arrangements help to enliven what was once neglected space and to humanize the experience of heavy infrastructure along the waterfront. Modest places are carved out for recreation, contemplation, arts events, and civic functions. A crescent-shaped space allows for sunning, playing, and enjoying the views to the south. People bring the park to life, whether they are running along the water's edge or relaxing in a quite sunny spot.
