Yuma City Hall
Yuma's new City Hall serves as anchor for the riverfront development zone within the historic downtown. WRT's landscape design relies on a rich palette of native plants to surround the building and weave together the adjacent parking areas. Water conservation is central to the scheme, and includes drought tolerant vegetation, drip irrigation, and rubble-lined retention basins to channel and capture storm water. Shady alle&etilde; s of date palms and olive trees mark the north and south approaches to the building, and terminate at a central courtyard oasis. Planted with papyrus, wild strawberry, and lemon trees, the courtyard is designed to relax the mind and heighten the senses. Soothing water features, such as misting towers with stone-clad channels, cool the desert air around intimate seating areas and recall the region's agricultural heritage.
