Abuja Capital Master Plan

WRT, as part of the joint venture International Planning Associates, planned a new national capital city for Nigeria for a population of more than three million people. The master plan included a regional plan, site selection and master plan for the new city, and detailed design of the Central Area, which accommodates the national government center, cultural institutions, and the central business district. Outside the Central Area, residential mini-cities with populations of 150,000 to 250,000 are organized around local business and employment centers. Today the new city, which serves both as the new location for the Nigerian federal government and an important symbol of national unity, has a population of approximately 1.4 million and continues to grow.
