Facing an exploding population growth in northern Delaware, Appoquinimink School District selected WRT to participate in a design competition for an entirely new campus. New buildings will include an early education center, an elementary school, and ultimately a middle and high school with athletic facilities (a natatorium, stadium, and numerous playing fields). The proposed site is located on a 270-acre parcel directly adjacent to the Appoquinimink River, and is surrounded on three sides by wetlands that constitute one third of the overall site. WRT's site-responsive approach aims to sensitively integrate buildings and landscapes with the unique tidal wetland ecology, creating abundant opportunities for innovative learning environments for all ages.
