Following WRT's preparation of Biloxi's Comprehensive Plan, the City invited the firm to lead the development of an energy and conservation strategy consistent with the requirements of the Department of Energy's EECBG program. The strategy focuses on increasing energy efficiency, advancing the use of renewable energies, improving public transit options, and enhancing opportunities for biking and walking. WRT partnered with CTG Energetics to conduct building audits of City Hall and the Biloxi Community Development Building. The audits identified a number of low-cost energy improvements that will reduce energy consumption by a minimum of 30% per year. Biloxi's energy efficiency retrofits of these two public buildings will serve as pilot projects for monitoring energy use and educating the public about energy and cost saving opportunities. In addition, the implementation of complete streets standards and the development of the Biloxi Peninsula Path are key recommendations intended to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, promote energy-saving transportation options, and improve community health and recreation.
