WRT designed the 14,000-square-foot interior for the Geraldine R. Dodge Foundation's new headquarters in Morristown, NJ, a project pursuing LEED Platinum certification. The central feature was a biowall, a system which has been implemented in only six other U.S. locations. The interior planted wall pushes the concept of sustainable design a step further and fosters a positive, valued experience of nature in the built environment. All of the materials were chosen for their low toxicity and embodied energy, high recycled content, and existing materials repurposing. The exquisite stair was detailed to facilitate the movement of air and light around the planted wall, while the mechanical system was integrated into the biowall to maximize the cleansing effect of the plants.
