John D. MacArthur Beach State Park

Conceived as an "island in time," John D. MacArthur Beach State Park preserves the lush and diverse subtropical coastal habitats that once covered southeast Florida. The 500-acre site includes the full cross-section of coastal strand environments, from mangrove forests, tidal mud flats, tropical hammock, and dune systems, to a 1.5-mile beach shoreline. The park program consists of an environmental interpretive center, a beach access bridge and boardwalks, sea-side shelters, and parking. The placement of roads, paths and buildings was planned to reveal the park's marine and upland habitats in sequence, and many rare trees were strategically saved to act as landmarks along the various paths.
