WRT's revitalization plan and successful HOPE VI grant application replaced the dilapidated 178-unit Coliseum Gardens public housing in East Oakland with a high-quality, transit-oriented neighborhood. The plan extends the street grid which connects to the existing urban fabric and features a 5.7-acre neighborhood park comprised of a multi-purpose athletic field and restored creek. The restored Lion Creek is planted with native vegetation to support wetland habitat. Renamed Lion Creek Crossing, the development integrates Head Start, YMCA and other community services, with 440 rental apartments and 28 homeownership townhomes making this a community of choice in a part of Oakland that has experienced incredible transformation.
