Housing choice, new parks, and amenities have positioned Buffalo's historic Lower West Side neighborhood as one of the City's choice neighborhoods, continuing the City-led efforts to attract new residents to the city. Sited along the busy New York Thruway, WRT's plan reconfigures the Lakeview Homes site and neighborhood through land-swaps between the parks department and the housing authority. The plan expands recreation opportunities and allows the new mixed-income housing to better integrate into the neighborhood. WRT's successful revitalization plan and HOPE VI grant application brought $28 million, which enabled a WRT-designed senior midrise to be constructed within 2 years on an obsolete City park, followed by the phased redevelopment of 520 mixed-income homes and the expansion of LaSalle Riverfront Park.
