Mission Bay Park is San Diego's premier tourist and recreation destination, containing 4,000 acres of beaches, parklands, picnic areas, marinas, resort hotels, and the renowned Sea World marine park. Serving a local and regional population while also being a major national and international tourist destination, Mission Bay faced dramatic increases in recreational demand and mounting civil and aquatic engineering problems. WRT's Master Plan update articulated a long-term vision and priorities for park management as well as the protection and expansion of the Park's natural resources, while mitigating negative impacts on adjacent residential neighborhoods.
