WRT was asked to provide a long-range planning concept for future development along the Cumberland River in downtown Nashville. The proposal was based on a large-scale flood control project to protect the east bank of the river; land in the floodplain is available as park space most of the year and a waterfront boulevard serves as a levee. The proposal created more than 100 acres of new park, while turning another 125 acres into prime development sites. A possible development scenario showcases the re-use of the Nashville Coliseum parking lots for development, with parking moved to garages.
