Penn State University Willard Plaza

The intent for Willard Plaza, a gift from the Class of 2004, was to create an activity node for the heart of Pollock Road, one of the key pedestrian crossroads on PSU's campus. A combination of unit pavers, lighting, street trees, railings and benches expands the domain of Pollock Road towards Old Main, improving circulation for bicyclists and pedestrians alike. Raised planters with native plantings were wrapped with polished granite seating, providing areas of shade for socializing or rest prior to or following a class or a performance. WRT designed the plaza as part of a comprehensive plan to transform the center of campus into predominantly pedestrian-oriented environment.
