Philadelphia Green Streets Projects

WRT worked with the Philadelphia Water Department's (PWD) Office of Watersheds to develop a menu of on-site stormwater management techniques to be applied to streets, which occupy more than a quarter of the land area in the combined sewer area. The PWD is working control overflows by managing the first inch of rainfall at the ground prior to entering the sewer system. The green approach adopted by PWD provides multiple benefits involving visible elements such as street trees that serve the dual purpose of enhancing the community's landscape as well as managing stormwater. WRT's illustrated visualizations for prototypical streets in Philadelphia were published in PWD's 2009 long-term control plan, "Green City, Clean Waters."
