Philadelphia Water Department Services
WRT is assisting the Philadelphia Water Department in a number of capacities, including project feasibility, visioning, planning and analysis, and communication. The feasibility and visioning results help to visualize green infrastructure retrofits of existing streets. Through photosimulations, plans, and sections, the Water Department has been able to show city officials and residents what green streets can look like and secure financing for the implementation of pilot projects. Planning and analysis services include the preparation of a data-driven integrated watershed management plan for Pennypack Creek and support for the process of prioritizing sites for green infrastructure implementation. Using GIS, WRT is developing a method of finding sites that will manage the greatest amount of stormwater at the lowest cost and with the fewest barriers to implementation. Communication support includes enhancing the Green City, Clean Waters strategy through development of graphically rich materials (i.e., documents, brochures, newsletter and postcard templates, posters, web sites, conference exhibits, and presentations) to help the Water Department convey clear, understandable messages.
