After 100 years of intensive iron ore mining and 25 years of abandonment, 1,100 acres on Red Mountain will be transformed into a major city park. WRT prepared a master plan to guide the development of this park to a vibrant centerpiece of the region's rapidly growing open space system. The park will help to improve the quality of life in adjacent communities and become an anchor for the city and regional green space system. Red Mountain Center will be the park's focal point, offering visitor orientation, concessions, and meeting space. More than 30 miles of multiuse trails will connect to the regional greenway system, and link fields, vista points, landscape restoration areas and heritage exhibits.
