Xiamen Neighborhood Redevelopment

This design competition scheme revitalizes a portion of the city of Xiamen's historic quarter. The area is characterized by a mixture of historic structures and streets interspersed with 20th century infill. The challenge was to identify key structures and zones for preservation and other candidate zones for new infill development. Our strategy forges a strong network of public space,streets and green space,to serve as the district's unifying structure, allowing preserved areas and redevelopment zones to be more seamlessly integrated. A variety of neighborhoods are envisioned within the study area, each with its own character.
