New River Gorge National River General Management Plan / EIS

Fayette, Raleigh & Summers Counties, WV

The general management plan for New River Gorge National River provides the long-term management decision-making framework for 72,000 acres of wild forest along 53 miles of the New River in West Virginia, including the most dramatic river gorge in the Appalachian Mountains. Recommended management actions over the next two decades will seek to establish the park as a model for natural resource restoration, historic preservation and successful partnerships. WRT assisted the National Park Service (NPS) with developing the general management plan by facilitating NPS internal decision-making, developing and evaluating alternatives, hosting public involvement activities, completing an environmental impact statement, and preparing the plan document.
