United States Capitol Master Plan

Washington DC

WRT served as the prime consultant in preparing a Master Plan for the U.S. Capitol complex and grounds. The Master Plan's objective was to enhance national and historic values as symbolized in the monumental core of Washington and the L'Enfant Plan. Urban design elements (entrances, relationships between major open spaces, squares and public spaces) were woven into the Plan. The Landscape Plan for the U.S. Capitol Grounds included the restoration of the historic Olmstead Landscape Plan in Capitol Square. Special attention was paid to the relationship between large-scale public structures and the surrounding Capitol Hill Historic District.
