The Haverford School is an all-boys, independent, pre-kindergarten through 12th grade private school located in the suburbs of Philadelphia, PA. The next major addition to this unique campus will be a new 30,600 square foot middle school offering traditional and active project-based learning spaces. The new building is part of The Haverford School’s Character at Our Core, a $50 million comprehensive campaign seeking to “realize inspiring space for every boy” and one of the final elements of WRT’s campus master plan for the school.

True to this vision, the three-story structure is organized around each grade with spaces that allow for collaboration, creativity, and innovation. The upper level learning commons offers a range of individual and group learning and study options, while a large maker space to support project-based learning opportunities will be a new feature, located at the ground level. The school lobby will serve as an assembly area for informal gatherings for middle school students. Overall, the new middle school provides a 20% increase in dedicated and shared classroom and laboratory spaces and a 52% increase in per student square footage. The renewed landscape design includes new student social space and an outdoor classroom. It is anticipated that the new middle school will open for the 2020 – 2021 academic year.
