Led by Silvia Vargas and Nancy O’Neill, WRT will be responsible for updating the General Land Use Plan, which serves as the City’s future land use map, and the Major Street Plan, which provides guidance for right-of-way dedication during subdivision and rezoning approval processes. WRT will also support White & Smith by structuring new or revised zoning districts consistent with the updated General Land Use Plan and by creating corresponding zoning and development standards.

The redrafting initiative follows a recently completed community-wide planning process, “Map for Mobile: Framework for Growth.” This process identified the community’s desired vision for growth, specifically regarding land use and transportation issues. In order to implement the vision of “Map for Mobile,” the Zoning Ordinance, Major Street Plan, and General Land Use Plan must be revised or replaced.
