Walking FDR Park with WIA Philadelphia and WWIRE
As the landscape at FDR Park turned toward fall, WRT hosted members of WIA Philadelphia and WWIRE: Wellness for Women In Real Estate for a walking tour of the South Philadelphia park.
WRT architect Lauren J. Powers and landscape architect Krista Reimer led the group through recent work at the Welcome Center, Playground, and Gateway Plaza. Along the way, they shared the thinking behind each space and offered an early look at the next phase of the park's masterplan.
For Lauren, some of the park's most important qualities only come into focus on foot:
"Something people really only notice when they walk the park in person is the diversity of ages and cultures using it," said Lauren. "That was something we were trying to maintain through the master plan, and it feels like it continues today, with the Southeast Asian Market and the range of different people there. There's tailgating for football games, kids on the playground, people playing tennis. All sorts of different activities."
That range of people and activities is what the masterplan was designed to support. An architect and a landscape architect led the walk together, and each project along the route reflects that shared approach to design.
The afternoon wrapped up with a picnic and conversation among AEC and real estate professionals. Thank you to everyone who joined us in the park.
