NFK2050 is the city’s comprehensive plan update, looking forward across the next 25 years to 2050. The plan builds on the work of Vision2100, a 2017 plan funded through Rockefeller Foundation’s 100 Resilient Cities initiative, integrating risk mitigation and smart development patterns with a full suite of policy and land use recommendations.
Robust public engagement across all wards and neighborhoods included in-person open houses, interactive workshops, flexible “Meeting-in-a-Box” sessions, informal coffee conversations, website engagement, and other tools, totaling 2100+ public touchpoints over two years. Above all, Norfolk residents are primarily concerned with housing affordability and flood resilience, and ensuring a high quality of life through walkable neighborhoods, access to parks and trails, and harnessing the city’s unique character and sense of place.
